Warhammer 40K: Space Hulk - Genestealers

Been going full steam over the evenings lately with my tyranids.

Completed the Space Hulk genestealers recently. All 22 genestealers and broodlord.

The swarm ready

The broodlord

The broodlord was actually completed a few days ago right after Raya. Added some additional touch up on the termie helmets on his hand and in the pile, which shows below as the helmets are a little darker.

Added extra base to match with the terminators for the Death Angels Card game.

Spawn of Cryptus

Added the Spawn of Cryptus model to my Tyranid army as per previous post with Old One Eye. Decided the broodlord will have a simple sand base with some splotches of purple goo. Later models may have more elaborated bases as I get used to using Spackle for sculpting bases.

Termagants done!
Close up on 1
Also completed were the 4 spare termagants which I set aside for some time for a test to see how the rest of the hive would look like. Carapace and chitin is good so far. The only ones looking odd is the weapons. I will be using the left over parts from the carnifex as a test to see how the current scheme of fleshtone (as per Invasion Swarms: Tyranid Painting Guide) suggested for the Nephilim King Hive.

Warhammer 40K: June Status

June comes and go. With the month almost ending, time to check what's new so far

Hive Fleet Tiamat
More work done on the genestealers. Mostly highlights on the carapace, limbs and the face. Additional bonus was a cheap broodlord from Shield of Baal:Deathstorm boxset which I pick up while looking for X-Wing minis for my collection.

"Spawn of Cryptus" close up
Also, I picked up a carnifex which I made into Old One Eye. Probably need more blue highlights instead of the existing grey which I used.

Lost Patrol aka 10th Company Scouts
Preordered a box of Lost Patrol when I heard it coming out. Probably the cheapest box set game that is released by GW although this is a second edition reprint of the 2000 edition. At least this time, my genestealers should be model correct, compared to my earlier works (4 scything talons, etc). Also on the plus side, more genestealers for my Death Angel Card game (which the purchase of the minis for the game was waaay overdue, no thanks to other projects) XD

Decided to start work primarily on the scouts which I have assigned to the 10th Company of my DA chapter. Probably need to tone down the green to match my existing models.

* Just "finished" the scouts over the weekend

Warhamer 40K - Stripping Death Angels

Over the Chinese New Year, I decided to reassign my existing Death Angel units to my first company since I already have the actual Space Hulk models for play. The stripping work was done using plenty of left over Dettol from the last job.

Stripping Finecast
The models were left in Dettol for 4 hours while I did some repainting in my living room. No overnight soaking this time as I had the whole house to myself during my pre Chinese New Year leave. Plus, the missus was sensitive about the Dettol odor the last time I soaked for 2 days. Gave the models a simple scrub with my old toothbrush and have gloves on this time. Most of the paint came off after a the soak and scrub except for the librarian which was a finecast.

Lesson learned: no finecast stripping.

Once dried, I primed them with my Bossny Blackboard black (one last can remaining)
Some reds can still be seen under right lighting (as shown below) to which should be fixed with the Zandri Dust basecoat.
Quick Priming

Librarian after repriming

Most of the basecoat layers were completed during the Holidays in Penang when things are quiet. Hopefully, they should be completed within the next two months and ready to be assigned as part of Deathwing Company.
After basecoats. Bone armour washed and drybrushed with Ushabti Bone

I also took the chance to finally do some work on the Space Hulk Minis. Like the Deathwings above, I basecoat, wash and drybrushed the main body (reds in this case) and gave ta basecoat layer on the rest as seen below (basically the cloth, seals, chains, metals  and weapons)

Genestealers were also not forgotten. Four of them were my test subject on the paint scheme as seen in White Dwarf issue 33 which showcased Space Hulk. The carapace were the focus in this work.

Looking forward to clear up these models by May.

Warhammer 40K: A little touch up

Finally had a chance to do a little touch up on the last few models.

Farsight Enclave Commander Sha'Vastos and Commander Bravestorm

Painted the gold part on the sides of the jet packs and added at the back since it looked quite empty.

Necron Illuminator Szeras

I did not have any pictures at the back of the miniature until I came across them in Games Workshop (in the old layout)

Tyranid Hive Fleet Tiamat

Finally, after ages of being left aside, I decided to look back into Tiamat's scheme for my Tyranid army. Wira was out of Hive Tyrants which was the unit I intended to use as the basis for the fleet colours. Might as well go small.
