Misc: Wira Iron Painter 2018

Since the last post, I was slowly working on my new box of Dark Imperium models which I bought during Publika's Anniversary (just to get my name in the second founding plaque). Those and the models that are now coming in from Warhammer Conquest magazine, got me working on the plans on how to assign my Primaris army for my Chapter. In between planning and painting, Nurgle decided to bless me with some chicken pox. Almost 3 weeks out of everything during my quarantine. I managed to get some model done and on the last days of the quarantine, I tested my pace by doing the base painting of almost 50 units of poxwalkers and Deathguard, well mostly poxwalkers. This set the tempo I needed to follow for the Iron Painter event which I have been planning for the last 2 years.

The Iron Painter  event was organised by Wira on the weekend before Deepavali. It is sort of an endurance challenge for participants to complete painting 30 models within a 24 hour span. The paint job required is a simple 3 colour scheme minimum with added awards for those who decided to up the challenge. The first was Heart of Steel, given to those who completed at least 50 models, and Iron Arm, given to those who assemble and paint on the spot. Instead of running with Necron Warriors that I initially intend to do, I decided to go ahead with completing my chapter instead.

WIP after 18 hours of assembly and painting. Bare minimum achieved.
Yup. As the image above shows, I assembled and painted 50 Dark Angel Marines (30 tactical squad and 20 intercessor squad in total). The remainder of 5 hours was spend finishing some minor touches (leather and insignia) and adding the chapter and squad decals over the models. Called it done at around 1 pm.

Objective Complete!
Took about 1 hour off to head home for a shower and quick breakfast around 4 am to recharge myself. I have to say that this is certainly not an easy task to last the entire 24 hours just to get the models done, even at 3 colour minimum standard.

The models a few days later after adding squad numbers.
The lighter shade of drybrush green seems to have faded away
During the entire event, I managed the following.
- complete assembly of the entire 3rd, 4th and 6th Tactical Squad
- complete assembly of the entire 13th and 15th Primaris Intercessor Squad
- prime with Abbadon Black (including the sand bases on the tactical marines
- basecoat with Caliban Green (thankfully both black and green were already thinned in my dropper)
- drybrush with Warpstone Glow (colour seems to be weak after drying)
- metal Leadbelcher
- red Khorne Red
- chest insignia Screaming Skull and wash Agrax Earthshade (skill base coating since they are hard to paint at this point
- shoulder insignia Cold Grey
- decal tactical/battleline insignia
- decal Dark Angels insignia on Primaris

Next time, I will be sticking to pre assembled 30 units.
But first...
Intercessor Squad 11 and 12 in progress

Misc: IT'S ANNIVERSARY TIME!!!!!

August to October is a very busy month in Warhammer Malaysia, with the grand opening celebrations of 2 new stores here and the Anniversary of 2 existing stores.

In conjunction with the anniversary, I started a simple project as a tribute for the celebrations. It is basically an extension of a previous model I did for Warhammer Publika's opening event 2 years back. They had a competition to design a new local chapter which I took part. How it went? I have no idea as it never really did went through.
The original design
Photo of the original model
The scheme is inspired by the colours of the national flag itself. Sadly no photo of the model was taken previously and I am not sure if the model is still around.

With the recent release of the new Primaris Marines, I decided to recreate the models, not only for Publika but for all the 4 outlets that we have here.
Publika Chapter
Founded 11th Sept 2016
Open 8th Oct 2016
A recreation based on the original design, with some small change to make this model uniform with the rest of the models.

Velocity Chapter
Founded 20th Jul 2018
Open 25th Aug 2018
The Velocity Chapter design is basically a pallet swap of the Publika Chapter since both outlets are in the same state of Kuala Lumpur.

Austin Heights Chapter
Founded 18th Aug 2018
Open 15 Sept 2018
Austin Heights Chapter, as per previous models, was based on the flag of the state of Johor.

Summerton Chapter
Founded 12th Aug 2017
Open 16th Sept 2017
Summerton Chapter model is still a work in progress as the blue is still too dark when compared to the colours of the flag of Penang. The backpack is also still incomplete, but it deserves a spot here together with the rest. I will be posting the final version once it is completed.

Abbey road version, without the backdrop
So once again, Happy Anniversary and Congratulations Warhammer Malaysia! Looking forward to many more years (and many more beautifully sculpted models!)

By the way, the dates were sourced after some research on all the previous post in the each outlet's Facebook page. Hopefully they are all correct! XD

*** Update ***
Finally completed the Summerton Chapter.

Warhammer 40K: Adeptus Mechanicus Forgebane

Two Thin Coats Malaysia had their competition once again this year. This time round, I signed up for 3 categories. Unfortunately, things got very hectic due to work with regards to the new SST implementation. Managed to complete only 2 category, single model and squad category. Had to ditch the monster category, only manage basecoat leadbelcher for my Armiger Warglaive.

Tech-Priest Dominus

Skitarii Ranger Alpha with flanked by Rangers Gunner with Arc Rifle and Plasma Caliver

Generic Skitarii Ranger with Omnispex

Generic Skitarii Rangers

The entire Skitarii Ranger Squad

Managed to complete it and submitted the photos on the 1st of September. Interestingly enough, I found up right before submission that the deadline was the day before. Oh well, at least I got a set of models completed.

About the paint job, bulk of the job was done on Merdeka day itself. I did not have time to apply any wash, while the red colour was just 2 coat without any additional layering. Well, better complete then perfect. Time to get the Armiger Warglaive completed next.

Misc: Another update post

Since the last post, a lot of hectic stuff has happened. The country changed management earlier, but the effects of it starts to really hit much later, beginning with the move to repeal GST and reintroducing SST to the country, and that takes a hit on my company's profile. But that does not mean things are not moving here.

Managed to snag myself some otherwise not a priority models from the secondary market, beginning with the Skitarii side of Forgebane a few weeks after it came out. I had already ordered the manuals online earlier but the offer from the secondary market was too enticing.

On top of that, got myself an Imperial Knight! Building the model as the Freeblade Daggerfall from my character in the iOS game Freeblade which I have not touched for a very long time (75% completed the main storyline anyway)

Some screenshot of the unit from in-game which I am using as a reference to build, including modifying the thunderstrike glove to have movable fingers with rippers and also 3D modelling the thermal cannon variant which is not available out of the box currently.

Also, thanks to work, I managed to pick up an elusive copy of Stormclaw (Space Wolves vs Orks) from Alexendria Games in Johor. This box completes my collection of box set fluff guides all the way from Assault on Black Reach onwards. Added bonus were 2 faction minis which were not my intent to collect but would be an interesting addition to the list of possible Kill Teams I have now.

Yes, I got myself the rulebook since I was curious on the gameplay and the changes since the last release in 2017, somewhat right before 8th Edition was released. Managed to get a game recently with my old buddy with me using the Astartes against his Tau.

On the painting front, not much was done, as my daughter put it, "Daddy's busy with PS4". The wife decided to get one for the family and they have been enjoying their daily workout with Just Dance, while I just chill with some series from Netflix. Got the Deathwing game but have not really dived into the game itself. A little slow for my preference as compared to how Space Marines were on the PS3.

Anyhow, I am currently rushing to finished the entire Forgebane Skitarii from earlier purchase for Two Thin Coat Malaysia's competition which ends next weekend. Sadly, I only found time to prime and basecoat the Armiger Helverins. One more week to go and need to get this done.

Also, Games Workshop finally opened a total of four Warhammer stores all over Malaysia, and I have been to each and every one of them for a sort of achievement with photo proof.
Patrick Ong of Warhammer - Publika, Kuala Lumpur. The first outlet in Malaysia, new location 1 floor down

Aaron Capel of Warhammer - Summerton, Penang
Marcus Tan of Warhammer - Velocity, Kuala Lumpur
Fred Khong of Warhammer - Austin Heights, Johor. Fred was the first outlet photo I took
Celebrated the opening day of Austin Heights and the Grand Opening of Velocity while at it.

Looking forward to many more years and outlets here in Malaysia. THE EMPEROR PROTECTS!!!

Certainly a cool limited edition to collect

*UPDATE

Finally got the photos of the Chief himself and another member of Warhammer Malaysia!!!
IT'S TJ!!!! Head of Warhammer South East Asia
And Leonard of Warhammer Malaysia
Managed to take photos with them during the 2nd Anniversary of Warhammer Publika's opening.

Warhammer 40K: Deathwatch Overkill KIll Team Cassius

Recently, I took part in Frontline Games's Classroom Painting Competition. The requirement was squad based units, which I decided to use this opportunity to get my Deathwatch Overkill minis painted (at least one faction). Totally forgot about my Primaris Marines which I from the starter kits which I picked up, which I would have submitted instead.

Kill Team Cassius
Ortan Cassius, Ultramarines Chaplain
Jensus Natorian, Blood Ravens Codicer Librarian
Zameon Gydrael, Dark Angels Company Champion
Drenn Redblade, Space Wolves Blood Claw
Rodricus Grytt, Imperial Fists Devastator
Vael Donatus, Ultramarines Sternguard Veteran
Ennox Sorrlock, Iron Hands Sternguard Veteran
Antor Delassio, Flesh Tearer Assault Marine Sergeant
Edryc Setorax, Raven Guard Vanguard Veteran
Garran Branatar, Salamander Terminator
Jetek Suberei, White Scars Biker Sergeant
Painting blacks was no joke as you need to put in more emphasis in edge highlighting the models, or they will look dull. Most of the colours chosen were based on the images from the Games Workshop website and the Deathwatch Painting Guide.

Sadly Jetek Suberei was a casualty as the antenna broke during transportation back from the competition. I did a temporary fix for the photo using some white tack which did a good enough job to hold it for the photo. Still looking for ways to get it fixed permanently.
