Warhammer 40K: Slow month

Still no camera and not much paint job done at the moment since my wife's down for dengue (no worries, she's back on her feet).

Only stuff done so far is just getting a set of chaos cultist done for my buddy's Christmas present. Just a simple scheme done over a weekend.

Since this month I've got some extra week off for me to work on my outstanding minis. Hopefully, there would be plenty enough done over the break.

Warhammer 40K: Minor works so far

Unfortunately for this post, I will not have any photos as my camera just malfunctioned (lens does not retract during shutdown). I tried using my iPad's camera to which the quality was no to my satisfaction.

Just a note on what is "completed" over the last few days:
- Chaplain Azazel
- Interrogator-Chaplain Dakarus
- Terminator Interrogator-Chaplain Ephrek
- Lexicanium Aspholon * probably need just a little more touch up.

Also complete are the Aegis Defence Line which I purchased for the quad guns that I am kit-bashing into a pair of dreadnought twin-linked autocannons. Work still in progress.

Warhammer 40K: Land Speeder Typhoon

Got the wife to get buy me (more like begging actually :P) a land speeder since my hands were itching to build something after the Vindicator was done. Decided on a Typhoon build since I assumed the missiles were only available for the Dark Angels. Anyway, another simple scheme done with some mistakes in assembly that resulted in the control panels unpainted, unlike what I did for Sableclaw.
Still some minor touches remaining on the lights before this is considered done.

Also, in conjunction with the opening of Warhammer Publika on the 8th of October, a preview of what was submitted for their opening day event.

If you are there on opening day, do give this guy a vote!

Warhammer 40K: Vindicator

Did a quick job over the new vindicator I acquired from the recently opened GW outlet in Publika. Wasn't exactly sure to proceed as a vindicator or to paint up as the 3rd Company's Rhino Lionheart. Decided to go with a vindicator since it is a new model for my collection and also I decided that the focus, if possible, should be geared more towards the 1st and 5th Company. Of course the Codex checklist will also be considered.

Storm bolter add on was from earlier works since I want to get something up and running right away.
I decided to adopt a more toned down green somewhat similar to my latest work on Traitor's End by reducing the edging to only Warpstone Glow instead of the finishing it with Moot Green. Also, no use of wash due to the white chalking residue on the greens from previous experience except for Agrax Earthshadeon the metal parts.

Warhammer 40K: Venerable Dreadnought Rakaziel

A documentation on Venerable Dreadnought Rakaziel's progress over x days. Got this since I was getting a little depressed and need some focus. The work is done over several nights with an estimate amount of 1-3 hours spent.

Forgot to take pictures for night 1 since the idea for the current post only came about on night 2. Basically by night 1, only assembly, priming and basecoating the model with Zandri Dust and Leadbelcher. with the base covered in Dark Reaper. Assembly took about 2 hours, including pinning the torso. Priming and basecoating took about another 2 hours.

Night 2 - 2 hours
Night 3 - 1 hour
Night 4 - 3 hours. Completed model

Check one off the to do list! Just a small mistake on the left arm weapon loadout, but it is sort of hidden from the original anyway.

Also as an added extra.
Only using 2 colours, Balthasar->Gehenna->Auric Armour Gold and Kantor Blue.
And no, I don't intend to start on AOS, not at least until I have my chapter complete (or at least 50%) and I will probably be getting Death faction instead.

Warhammer 40K: Space Hulk - Genestealers

Been going full steam over the evenings lately with my tyranids.

Completed the Space Hulk genestealers recently. All 22 genestealers and broodlord.

The swarm ready

The broodlord

The broodlord was actually completed a few days ago right after Raya. Added some additional touch up on the termie helmets on his hand and in the pile, which shows below as the helmets are a little darker.

Added extra base to match with the terminators for the Death Angels Card game.

Spawn of Cryptus

Added the Spawn of Cryptus model to my Tyranid army as per previous post with Old One Eye. Decided the broodlord will have a simple sand base with some splotches of purple goo. Later models may have more elaborated bases as I get used to using Spackle for sculpting bases.

Termagants done!
Close up on 1
Also completed were the 4 spare termagants which I set aside for some time for a test to see how the rest of the hive would look like. Carapace and chitin is good so far. The only ones looking odd is the weapons. I will be using the left over parts from the carnifex as a test to see how the current scheme of fleshtone (as per Invasion Swarms: Tyranid Painting Guide) suggested for the Nephilim King Hive.

Warhammer 40K: June Status

June comes and go. With the month almost ending, time to check what's new so far

Hive Fleet Tiamat
More work done on the genestealers. Mostly highlights on the carapace, limbs and the face. Additional bonus was a cheap broodlord from Shield of Baal:Deathstorm boxset which I pick up while looking for X-Wing minis for my collection.

"Spawn of Cryptus" close up
Also, I picked up a carnifex which I made into Old One Eye. Probably need more blue highlights instead of the existing grey which I used.

Lost Patrol aka 10th Company Scouts
Preordered a box of Lost Patrol when I heard it coming out. Probably the cheapest box set game that is released by GW although this is a second edition reprint of the 2000 edition. At least this time, my genestealers should be model correct, compared to my earlier works (4 scything talons, etc). Also on the plus side, more genestealers for my Death Angel Card game (which the purchase of the minis for the game was waaay overdue, no thanks to other projects) XD

Decided to start work primarily on the scouts which I have assigned to the 10th Company of my DA chapter. Probably need to tone down the green to match my existing models.

* Just "finished" the scouts over the weekend

Warhammer 40: Status Updates

Just some status updates since the last DA post way back in February.

Dark Angels Chapter
From left: Interrogator-Chaplain Ephrek, Lexicanium Aspholon, Chaplain Azazel, Interrogator-Chaplain Dakarus
Finally got to prime and do the initial works for the 3 chaplains and 1 librarian from the codex. Hopefully, they should be ready by mid-June.

Stripping Works
Before
After
Finally the units are done. Just some minor details left and assigning them to the corresponding squads.

Space Hulk Blood Angels
The job so far
Basing in progress
Basing result, top view
Did some basing work. although not exactly the result I wanted. The white stuff used above was spackle which I got from nearby ACE Hardware. The base is designed as such that the models can be removed for use with the Space Hulk board game (since the base is larger that the squares itself) while the base itself will be colour coded to match the cards for Space Hulk Death Angel Card game.

Warhammer 40K: 5th Company Predator Traitor's End

Picked up a Predator at the beginning of the month as I was looking for something different to paint.
Done in about 1-2 weeks over whatever time available.

Scheme is based on Traitor's End from the Dark Angel Codex.

Misc: Bandai T-65 Star Wars X-Wing Part 1

Thanks to the Bandai and the recent release of the Force Awakens, I picked up some models to add to my collection last Christmas. I had planned to get these models fully painted and with the recent arrival of my T-70 and Millennium Falcon, I decided to start some work on them.

I did most of the major assemblies some time ago while parts, such as the interior, were left unassembled for easy access while painting. The first to be painted is the T-65 X-Wing from the original trilogy. My personal favourite craft from the Rebel alliance.

X-Wing fully assembled and glued after cockpit and pilot is fully painted.
A close up of the pilot
I thought the wings would look great with Ushabti Bone/Screaming Skull. I immediately disliked the scheme once it was fully painted. The entire part was painted over using Pallid Wynch flesh to bring the color back close to white. I will probably go with a greyish white for this model on the rest of the body. The red pieces were previously painted with a layer of Mephiston Red. I will probably basecoat it again with Khorne Red to have them a little more darker.

The pilot itself was a challenge due to its small size. The biggest problem was actually the decals as the decals provided to were of stiffer materials. Even soaking it in water was not able to seperate the decal from the paper. Hopefully the work done would have it stick well enough to last.

More reasons to paint the model instead.

Warhamer 40K - Stripping Death Angels

Over the Chinese New Year, I decided to reassign my existing Death Angel units to my first company since I already have the actual Space Hulk models for play. The stripping work was done using plenty of left over Dettol from the last job.

Models before the stripping
After Stripping
Stripping Finecast
The models were left in Dettol for 4 hours while I did some repainting in my living room. No overnight soaking this time as I had the whole house to myself during my pre Chinese New Year leave. Plus, the missus was sensitive about the Dettol odor the last time I soaked for 2 days. Gave the models a simple scrub with my old toothbrush and have gloves on this time. Most of the paint came off after a the soak and scrub except for the librarian which was a finecast.

Lesson learned: no finecast stripping.

Once dried, I primed them with my Bossny Blackboard black (one last can remaining)
Some reds can still be seen under right lighting (as shown below) to which should be fixed with the Zandri Dust basecoat.
Quick Priming

Librarian after repriming

Most of the basecoat layers were completed during the Holidays in Penang when things are quiet. Hopefully, they should be completed within the next two months and ready to be assigned as part of Deathwing Company.
After basecoats. Bone armour washed and drybrushed with Ushabti Bone

I also took the chance to finally do some work on the Space Hulk Minis. Like the Deathwings above, I basecoat, wash and drybrushed the main body (reds in this case) and gave ta basecoat layer on the rest as seen below (basically the cloth, seals, chains, metals  and weapons)

Genestealers were also not forgotten. Four of them were my test subject on the paint scheme as seen in White Dwarf issue 33 which showcased Space Hulk. The carapace were the focus in this work.

Looking forward to clear up these models by May.
