Macross/Robotech: HWR-00-Mk II (Monster/M.A.C.) Part 2

Finding the right time even on long weekends was tricky especially when there is a lot to do at home. At least I got some progress on the MAC II.

One thing for sure is that I lack focus when comes to painting large models like this, evidently from fact that the Land Raider and Dark Talon is still not completed. Also scheduling several hours in 1 shot to work on them is tough. At least now I have a new paint station which you see above, thanks to my lovely wife who got it for me for my recent birthday. It certainly helps as it allows me to clear the table away away for dinner without the need to pack everything off and to continue when dinner is done. I will probably need to get the GW water pot since that is the only thing that missing to allow me to paint on the go as the cup I am using topples easily on this station.

In the mean time, here is a sneak peek on new units joining Balthazar's company.
Got the assault squads since I wanted to check out the spruce and bits load out and at the same time get some other squad type units since I already have terminators and tactical marines. I was initially hoping to get the devastator squads but those were not available at time of purchase. These units were from the vanguard veteran kit since they had more bits available compared to the standard assault marine kits. And I have used up most of the variant weapons available permitted by the codex. I will certainly need to grab a wider range of kits if I were to have at least every possible weapon options.

These veterans were from the upgrade kit I purchased while building up my land raider. I finally decided to make them with some of the spares available from the vanguard veterans kit, again with multiple weapon combination possible as permitted by the codex. I was only able to make 3 out of 4 since there were not enough arm piece for use with the storm bolter. Definitely need to allocate more funding for more kits, or look around for space marine bits bins. Sternguard Veteran bits perhaps?

Macross/Robotech: HWR-00-Mk II (Monster/M.A.C.) Part 1

One of the many big guns everybody who watched Macross/Robotech would love to pilot is the HWR-00-MK II known as the Monster or M.A.C. depending on which series you follow. Since this unit was introduced to me proper during my Robotech RPG days, I will be referring to as the MAC.

I got this bad boy as a birthday gift from a buddy of mine. I already had one built and painted (basecoated green with Tamiya spray only) a few years back in which I decided to take a different path for this model.

I started the project a few weeks back and have yet to continue since then due to some major workload in the office for a project that should be launching sometime this week. I was looking forward to continuing the basecoat touch up in the evenings which proved difficult since there were plenty do to at home at the moment. I look forward to continue working with this over the coming long Raya weekend together which the Dark Talon which I have done some progress prior to the work above.

Assembling the model was tricky since there were a lot of the parts were molded thin and for some reason does not snap in accurately, compared to the previous build. Probably since I was in a way rushing when building this model. This, however, gave me a good try on learning how to use putty (Tamiya putty in this case) to smooth some of the poorly done joints.

Also for this build, I decided to go with the Deathwing colour scheme as the previous one was done in the standard green. I have added some Dark Angel icons here and there.

Hopefully, I should be able to make good progress on this model, the Dark Talon and the Land Raider which is still not complete. Also, I need to do more work on Sammael which needs a few more touch up.

Warhammer 40K: 2nd and 9th Company Master

Finally, finished up the last of my company masters. The term finished is probably a little loosely used here especially since they probably could use some improvement at a much later time.

Instead of the fine panel lining on Sableclaw, I decided to go with drybrushing Dawnstone over the unit to give it a very dusty look. The twin-linked storm bolter was overdone as I was retesting out the application of Kindleflame which I had last year and never liked the result on my Death Angel units.

9th Devastator Company Master
Left the eyes out

I liked the result of the cloak here. Not over washed like some of my earlier models while looking bone smooth with parts of the folds looking clear. Maybe should have lowered the exposure on the camera when taking this (I have been using +0.7 on my camera all these while)

Finally, a shot of every company master together.

If you take a closer look, I have updated Balthazar with a banner to keep the front row uniform.
Here's a close up.

Up Next:-
- Finishing touches on my Land Raider, AOBR Dreadnought and completing the Dark Talon

Warhammer 40K: 2nd and 9th Company Master WIP

Just a little update on the latest work I am doing over the last few weeks since the last update. Things are slowing at the moment since my 2nd kid is now here (already a couple of months). Home comes first, but there will definitely be some time for this every now and then.

Sammael, 2nd Company - Ravenwing

Of course I would wanted to get myself Sammael on Corvex. Unfortunately, I did not exactly have the budget during my last trip over to Penang (for work). Hopefully it will still be there when I have some cash to spare.

I also went with Sableclaw since I identified some parts which were meant for Sableclaw from the Ravenwing accessory pack.

9th Company

The Company Master is built from parts found on the Dark Angels upgrade frame. This unit should do just find for my use with the Devastator Company, although he looks more like a company veteran instead.
